wednesday night BOOK REVIEW

I LOVE BOOKZ!!!

and i highly recommend ‘DELUXE’ by dana thomas, a book about the contemporary state of luxury companies like prada, louis vuitton, gucci, etc. and the ways in which said brands have been co-opted by evil businessmen who only concern themselves with the bottom line (aka $$$) and possess an utter disregard for true luxury and craftsmanship. thomas manages to make a seemingly vapid and superficial world a thoroughly interesting one, particularly in her discussions of expanding asian luxury markets (whaddup china), counterfeit goods, and modern perfume concocting (sidenote: jlo’s ‘glow’ scent made $80 million in its first 3 years…crazy!!!). ‘DELUXE’ is well-written, engaging, and meticulously researched.

FINAL SCORE: 9/10
